Viacom, the company that owns Children’s Network Nickelodeon announced that 124 Conch Street and its residents will not be built in the pristine shores of the island of Palawan.
Earlier this year Viacom and Nickelodeon announced that they were partnering with , the Coral World Park (CWP) Undersea Resorts Inc. The announcement of the theme-park supposedly to be built on privately owned land in Coron Island in Northern Palawan was met with protests from environmentalists despite the Department of Tourism’s assurances that the theme park would only be built after CWP and Viacom had complied with all environmental rules and regulations.
An on-line petition to prevent “Nickelodeon’s destruction of The Last Environmental Frontier” gathered more than 260,000 signatures.
