TayTay to Ortigas LRT 4 may soon be built

Mining Mogul Salvador B. Zamora II is preparing to submit an unsolicited proposal to build and operate the Light Rail Transit (LRT) 4 line in Metro Manila.

The LRT-4 project was conceptualized during the Aquino administration under the Public-Private Partnership initiative of the government. It was approved for development by the National Economic Development Authority board in 2015, but that approval has since lapsed. Had it been built it would have travelled the 20 kilometers from the Ortigas Business District to TayTay Rizal and serviced approximately 4,000 daily commuters daily.

Mr Zamora II is however still deciding whether to submit his proposal to a “Swiss challenge” where other interested parties may propose more competitive offers, or if he should wait for the Congressional initiative to grant franchises for the development of mass public transport systems.

Mr. Zamora II’s bid for the LRT4 will cost US$1.5Billion and would have a concession period of at least 34 years.
