Hygiene Comfort Green –The History of HCG

HCG can trace its roots all the way back to 1931 when Mr Hocheng Chiu created Hocheng Pottery Manufacturing – the company that would become HCG – with a starting capital of only US$12.50, in Yin-Ko City, Taiwan. Hocheng Pottery initially concentrated in the production of water tanks and flower pots. Mr. Chiu quickly earned a reputation for hard work and dedication by peddling his products from a bicycle that he would pedal from his factory throughout the Taiwanese countryside.

Mr Hocheng ChiuIn 1941, Hocheng Pottery diversified into the production of sanitary wares and 9 years later in 1950 he Mr. Chiu successfully manufactured and distributed the first white-glazed toilet. His success continued to skyrocket, and Hocheng Pottery Manufacturing opened a Taipei office in 1956. 6 years later they would open the first kiln tunnel in Taiwan.

In 1980 the company decided to direct 6% of its annual revenue to help ensure its future viability of the Hocheng Group and in 1981, the company was formally renamed HCG.

Through a partnership with Moen, Inc. HCG introduced the first one-piece water closet – the Alps Series – in 1984. The Alps series was so popular that within a year more than 100,000 units were sold in Taiwan.

HCG’s continued growth prompted the company to go public – becoming the first sanitary wares company to have an IPO on the Taiwanese Stock Exchange.  But HCG did not stop there. HCG's unwavering commitment to quality and customer satisfaction over the years made it a brand of international renown. And as the company was growing internationally, it needed to strengthen its position in the international market. HCG raised US$ 80 Million by issuing Global Deposit Receipts in Luxemburg in 1994.

HCG Philippines A year later, HCG founded Hocheng Philippines Corporation (HPC) and in 1998 opened a 100,000 SQM state-of-the-art European technology production plant in the First Cavite Industrial Estate (FCIE). The world class quality and technology of HCG was now infused with Filipino creativity and ingenuity.

This new influx of creativity allowed HPC to take hygienic lifestyle to new levels. HPC released the Featoilet. The Featoilet’s elegant, minimalist and feathery silhouette brought the relaxing spa-like atmosphere to homes while providing unparalleled levels of hygiene.

HPC soon also introduced the Lazuli concept – a luxury level of sanitary wares – to the Philippine market and after a few years of operations, HCG was able to corner 55% of the market share, making HCG the no.1-bathroom solutions provider in  the Philippines.
