Cruise ports proposed by Congresswoman Arroyo

Former President & Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is pushing for the construction of new cruise-ports in major coastal provinces throughout the country.

In a speech before the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Association for Philippine-China Understanding, Congresswoman Arroyo said that she believes that “If the cruise ports are constructed, the Philippines will further open its gateway for more Chinese tourists. Data from the Department of Tourism showed that China is our third largest source of tourists.”

In the first 11 months of 2017, the Department of Tourism recorded a significant increase in Chinese tourists from 243,137 tourists to 890,114 tourists. Currently there are only two cruise destination ports in the country – Manila and the Curimao Port in Laoag, Illocos Norte. Arroyo believes that new cruise-destination ports can be built to further increase the number of tourists arriving if cruise-ports in Subic, Mariveles, Boracay, Palawa, Bohol, Cebu and Davao are built.
