The North Luon Expressway (NLEX) Corporation - a subsidiary of the Manny Pangilinan owned Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, announced in a statement the construction of an additional lane at the San Fernando Interchange Northbound Exit.

The expansion project aims to widen the 336-meter exit ramp that serves as the gateway into Pampanga's capital - addressing the heavy volume of vehicles that are currently using the ramp, particularly during rush-hour.

NLEX Corporation President and CEO Rodrigo E. Franco said that the project "is a part of our company's pursuit of improving the traffic flow in and out of the expressway." Currently the San Fernando Interchange is one of the busiest interchanges on the NLEX, and the drive of the government to Build, Build, Build, is expected to only increase the volume of traffic entering San Fernando's Business and Commercial centers.

The improvement of the San Fernando Interchange is part of a long term plan of the NLEX Corporation to keep traffic flowing smoothly in the area. Last year, the NLEX Corporation build two new bridges across the NLEX in the area to serve as separate carriageways; It also widened the interchange ramps to four lanes in each direction, and; it removed the roundabouts in the Jose Abad Santos Avenue area in favor of automated traffic signals.
