From January to May 2018, 23,000 Dengue cases have already been reported - 8% higher than the number reported for the same period last year. So with the onset of the rainy season, the DOH is asking all the Centers for Health Development (CHDs) to coordinate with local-government units to help prevent a surge of Dengue cases in their area. Most cases of Dengue were reported in Metro Manila (6,732 cases); followed by Central Luzon (4,181 cases), and; the CALABARZON region (3,555 cases).
This year's theme: "Eskwelahan, Simbahan, Barangay, Palengke at Buong Komunidad, Sama-Sama Nating Sugpuin ang Dengue" continues to push the 4S Kontra Dengue Strategy: Search & Destroy; Seek Early Consultation; Self Protective Measures, and; Say to to indiscriminate fogging. The DOH would like to remind the public to remain vigilant. They reiterated their call to stomp out the places where mosquitoes breed - particularly places where stagnant water accumulates such as old tires, roof gutters and even flower vases. Students are asked to keep themselves safe by using insect repellents and by wearing long sleeves and pants to minimize exposed skin. They also reiterated that should anyone show tell-tale signs of Dengue that they should immediately seek professional help from their local CHDs or the nearest hospital.
