Today, June 6, 2018, thousands-upon-thousands of students woke up early to march their way into the new school year. Along with their return comes the Department of Health's (DOH's) clarion cry to prevent the spread of a deadly disease, as it officially kicks of "Dengue Awareness Month".
From January to May 2018, 23,000 Dengue cases have already been reported - 8% higher than the number reported for the same period last year. So with the onset of the rainy season, the DOH is asking all the Centers for Health Development (CHDs) to coordinate with local-government units to help prevent a surge of Dengue cases in their area. Most cases of Dengue were reported in Metro Manila (6,732 cases); followed by Central Luzon (4,181 cases), and; the CALABARZON region (3,555 cases).
